Winners of the ‘Oscars of watches’ in Dubai

The winners of this year’s ‘Oscars of watchmaking’ have been chosen, with a wide range of timepieces recognized for their engineering excellence and eye-catching design.

An industry jury chose the world’s best watches in fifteen different categories, including sports, jewelry and travel timepieces, with the awards presented at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in Geneva earlier this month

The grand prize for the best watch in the world, the Grand Prix Aiguille d’Or, was awarded to the Chronomètre Ferdinand Berthoud FB 1 by Ferdinand Berthoud.

Retailing for more than $200,000, this limited-edition white gold and titanium piece is fitted with a leather strap and powered by a hand-made movement made up of more than 1,120 components.

The Audience Award, chosen by votes submitted internationally online and at selected international watch exhibitions, was awarded to 33 bis Quai des Bergues in Czapek Genève.

The winning watches were showcased in Seoul, Rome and Geneva before arriving in Dubai on November 15 for its latest edition at Dubai Watch Week.

Watches from the brands Audemars Piguet, Montblanc, MB&F, Piaget, TAG Heuer and Tudor, along with Chanel, Eberhard & Co, Fabergé and Grönefeld, have also been awarded by this year’s international jury of 27 people.
